Our Beliefs
Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I (Jesus Christ) have commanded you….” (Matthew 28:19, 20)
At Historic Baptist Church, we desire to welcome every person into an environment of personal and spiritual growth through the worship of God. We want to encourage a caring, friendly, and inviting ministry of people who are committed to knowing God, His will, and the teachings of His Son Jesus Christ. We reach out to all with the same respect and love taught to us by our Lord, and we purpose to represent Christ to the world as a sign of spiritual healing and hope for the future. We believe this is what God requires of us.
Our Mission is to be a friendly and loving church where all are welcome who want to hear the word of God preached. Our ministry is people. We care about you! In addition to being an independent Bible preaching Baptist church, we also strive to offer an environment of grace and joy. Our pastor believes people ought to attend church because they look forward to the preaching, praise, and the fellowship. We strive for the proper balance of grace and truth. We are a church family that is bound by cords of love and dedication to God. We support the cause of Jesus Christ and the continued ministry of the scriptures to the world by means of various ministries. We encourage soul-winning, visitation, and other evangelistic activities. We know that Jesus would have every effort we make have as its purpose the Glory of Jesus Christ and Redemption.
Our church stands for landmark principles, including the local church, scriptural baptism, and closed communion. We also take the strongest stand possible in regards to the Bible. We believe the King James Version (AV-1611) is the inerrant and inspired word of God. We believe and teach that this is God’s word for the English-speaking world, that it will be the standard until the Lord Jesus Christ returns (and probably afterwards), and that it is sufficient to reveal all of God’s truth to us. We believe that the greatest commandment Jesus gave us is to Love God and one another — this being known as “Love Commandment Doctrine.” We believe the church is the “Pillar and Ground of the Truth,” and that all ministries should be under the authority of a New Testament church. We teach the Holy Bible, knowing that every man will give an account of himself to Jesus Christ. Every man will have to give an answer to Jesus Christ as to how he used his liberty of conscience.
The Gospel
It is not by chance that you have visited our site today. Although we have not had time to become acquainted, I would like to share with you something most wonderful. Some time ago I met a remarkable Person, so great and outstanding that it has become a great joy just to introduce Him to others. The great tragedy is that so many know about Him, but so few know Him personally. Perhaps you have already surmised that I am speaking of Jesus Christ.
To some He is little more than a word of blasphemy, to others a source of embarrassment, but to those who know Him, He is wonderful!
The New Testament, in the book of Acts, records how a man named Paul persecuted the early Christians. But after he met Jesus, his life was transformed. He wrote, “This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief.” (I Timothy 1:15)
It hurts our pride to have to admit that we are sinners, but it is wonderful when we experience the power of Jesus Christ to forgive our sins and heal our hearts. When once we accept Him as our Saviour, we make an amazing discovery. Jesus did not come to make us stuffy saints or miserable mortals, but He came to give us LIFE — the very fullest and richest. Listen to Jesus’ own words:
“I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” (John 10:10)
Dear Reader, whatever may have been your disappointment with people, disillusionment with life, and confusion with religion, let me assure you that this is not the fault of Jesus Christ. He has been misrepresented, betrayed, denied, and neglected, but He continues to stand majestically, in love pleading with every one of earth’s billions,
“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)
Do you personally know the Lord Jesus Christ? Repent of your sins, believe that Jesus died on the cross to pay for your sins. Receive him as your personal Saviour through faith, and learn to make him the Lord of your life. Read the following scripture carefully.
“If thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be SAVED.” (Romans 10:9)
If you want to know more about this wonderful Saviour, all you have to do is read the John/Romans located on the home page of this site. Talk to a committed Christian or visit our church were Pastor Desent will explain to you the good news of salvation. All things are planned by God — even your visit to this site. Do not harden yourself against His call. Pray that the Holy Spirit will open your mind and heart to let Jesus in. Salvation will be going from death to life. Jesus said,
“He that heareth my word, and believeth on Him that sent me hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation, but is passed from death unto life.” (John 5:24)
This is the greatest mission of HBC.
The 10 Commandments
Have you ever broken any one of the ten commandments of God? If you have ever told a lie, you are a liar. If you ever hated someone, you have committed murder in your heart. If you have ever looked at a woman, or a woman looked at a man, and lusted after them you have committed adultery in your heart. Jesus said that if a man is guilty of breaking even one of these commandments he is guilty of breaking all of them. It does not matter if you call it a story, embellishment, exaggeration, etc., a lie is a lie. It does not matter what the value was of the object that you took, it is still stealing.
Revelation 21:8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
Most people have broken every one of God’s ten commandments by an early age. Some may say, I never committed adultery or killed anyone. But Jesus said if you have lusted after another you have committed adultery in your heart. Furthermore, Jesus said if you have hated another person you have committed murder in your heart. If you ever spoken of God without the full reverence God deserves you have taken God’s name in vain. If you have broken just one of God’s law you are a sinner, and the wages of sin is death. You will die. After death comes the judgment of God. Some have eternal life through Jesus Christ. Those without Jesus Christ have eternal damnation. Jesus came to seek and to save us from that damnation. Only through faith in Jesus Christ and trusting his death, burial and resurrection for your salvation, can one be saved and brought back into fellowship with God, escaping the judgment of eternal hell.
The Ten Commandments of God’s Law
Have you broken even one?
1. Thou shalt have no other gods before me. 2. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image. 3. Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain. 4. Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy. 5. Honour thy father and thy mother. 6. Thou shalt not kill. 7. Thou shalt not commit adultery. 8. Thou shalt not steal. 9. Thou shalt not bear false witness. 10. Thou shalt not covet.
A new Commandment given by our Lord!
The LOVE Commandment of Christ.
John 13:34, A new commandment I give unto you, that ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.
Salvation in Christ
It is only through personal faith in the person of Jesus Christ and his precious shed blood that a person can have God’s forgiveness of sins and receive his gift of eternal salvation. Jesus Christ died for our sins, was buried, and rose again the third day by the power of God – this is the Gospel, the good news. If you believe this with your whole heart you are saved and you have eternal life. You are born again into the family of God. Do you really believe this and are you fully trusting what Jesus did for your salvation?
Romans 3:23; For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.
Romans 5:8; But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
Romans 6:23; For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Romans 10:9; That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be SAVED.
Romans 10:10; For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
You are commanded to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ (I John 3:23). Obedience to this New Testament commandment will make all the difference as to where you spend eternity. If you have believed on the Lord Jesus Christ, God expects you to confess him as your Saviour. HELL is real, but so is salvation through Jesus Christ. Without Jesus Christ you have already chosen eternal damnation.
